D.E. Newberry Jr., 82, of Orefield, died Dec. 14, 2013, in Cedarbrook Nursing Home, South Whitehall.
The husband of Dorothy (Friend) Newberry, he was a son of the late De Estes and Cora Mae (Perry) Newberry.
A truck driver and construction worker for most of his life, he lived in Alaska for 20 years where he was a pioneer of the Alaska Pipeline helping to build the North Slope Haul Road to Prudhoe Bay.
Later, he was the safety director for all the trucks hauling 48-inch pipe out of Fairbanks.
No lives were lost due to equipment failures during his tenure.
He realized his dream of becoming a business owner when he and his wife founded D's Limousine Service in 1985.
What began as a simple courier service grew to become the largest corporate transportation service in the Lehigh Valley with several sedans, limousines, vans and buses.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son Donald and his wife, Krys, of Yardley; brother L.M. of Tucson, Ariz.; and grandson Zachary.
There will be a graveside service 11:30 a.m. on Dec. 21 at Jordan Lutheran Cemetery, 5103 Snowdrift Road, Orefield.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. at Keller Funeral Homes Inc., 1018 Church St., Fogelsville.
Interment will be immediately following the service.
