WILKES UNIVERSITY

Weaver completes oral history project

Wilkes University freshman student Jacob Weaver of Northampton recently completed an oral history project as part of a first-year foundations course called "Be the Change."

A first-year foundations course is a course required by all Wilkes freshmen. "Be the Change" focused on a service learning project that gathered the oral histories of northeast Pennsylvania veterans.

During the semester, students met one on one with the veterans whose service ranged from World War II to Operation Iraqi Freedom and also hosted a veteran's brunch Nov. 7 for the retired service members and their spouses.

Each veteran received a copy of his or her oral history as a keepsake at the end of the semester.

Marcia Balester, coordinator of Wilkes' provost office, designed and taught the course.

Weaver is a pre-pharmacy major.
