A three-point shot by Bethlehem Catholic's Nia Mims in the fourth quarter was the boost the Hawks needed to all but guarantee their ultimate 58-47 victory over Liberty last Friday night.
"It felt so invigorating, just having helped my team," Mims said.
Minutes later, Mims hit two foul shots to widen Becahi's lead.
"I was thinking I need to make these," she said.
Although the Hurricanes led by one point after the first quarter, Becahi's Jordynn Jones was able to force a turnover early in the second quarter, and the Hawks scored back-to-back buckets.
A three-pointer by Liberty's Torie Zerbe threatened to shift the tide, but soon after, Hurricane senior, Kali Shumock tripped and fell, and was carried off the floor after several minutes with an injury to her knee.
Jones said, "That was kind of scary, and we knew they were going to have to push harder."
Becahi led 31-24 at halftime, but Coach Bill Lanscek insisted the Hawks run their plays.
"He said we were kind of playing street ball. We still need to work on some things, but we survived the win," said Jones.
The Hawks did survive the win, but the Hurricanes refused to go away, sparked by 17 points from sophomore, Madison Capuano, which included two three-pointers.
Becahi's Kalista Walters led the Hawks with 21 points and sealed the game in the last minute with two baskets.
Also last Friday, Freedom lost to Easton by one point, 26-25.
This week, the Patriots will host the Hurricanes on Friday night, and Becahi will take on Easton.
