Northampton Borough council Nov. 21 learned the long vacant piece of land behind CVS Pharmacy and Redner's Markets may soon be the site for a townhouse development.
Borough Solicitor William McCarthy has been corresponding with counsel for unnamed interested parties interested in purchasing the property, off 21st Street, owned by Posh Construction, Bethlehem Township. A total of 40 townhouses are planned for the site.
Councilman Anthony "Tony" Pristash said borough Manager Gene Zarayko received notice from McCarthy about the possible sale of the Posh property.
"At this point, I cannot reveal the name of the builder who is interested," Zarayko said.
Years ago the Posh family bought the once thriving Cross Country Clothes Manufacturing plant and land, later subdividing the tract for CVS Drug Store and Redner's.
In other business, a New Jersey contractor who received council approval to convert the former Tama apparel factory on Main Street into apartments still has not made any changes to the structure. It was expected construction work would begin soon.
Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr. also noted a vacancy exists on the board of health. Lopsonzski said residents should apply for the vacant seat, indicating it is a way to serve the community.
The health board held its last meeting of the year last week.
