WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN
I don't know about you, but this year flew by for me. I am utterly astonished Christmas is two weeks from today. I am completely unprepared for the holidays and the next two weeks are not looking too good for me to get there. Where did the time go? Luckily, the school calendars are somewhat bare, so maybe that will help.
I'll start with Western Salisbury Elementary School. There is going to be a holiday movie night and cookie sale 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 13. "Jingle All the Way" will be shown 6:45 p.m. Bring your favorite pillow or blanket. Guests will have a chance to purchase a raffle ticket to win a giant stocking filled with treats. Light refreshments including hot chocolate, water and popcorn will be sold. Parents need to send in their cookies before 5 p.m. on the day of the event. My family and I love that movie; it is definitely in our top 10 for Christmas viewing.
Something else worth viewing is Principal Bob Cassidy's blog on the Salisbury Middle School website. I was perusing through it this week and found it very interesting. It is loaded with information about what the students are doing and has tons of pictures including SMS football games, the Halloween dance and Sprit Week. If you have a student at SMS, I suggest you check it out.
Salisbury High School has its Winter Choral and Instrumental Concert 7 p.m. Dec 12. Also, all the high school winter sports have started or are starting this week. If you are looking for some inexpensive evening entertainment, drive over to SHS and cheer on our varsity and junior varsity teams. You will not be disappointed.
There is a school board/operations/reorganization meeting at the administration building 7 p.m. Dec. 18.
All Salisbury Township Schools are going to be closed Dec. 23 through Jan. 1, 2014. Enjoy your time off and spend some time together as a family. My suggestion: pop some popcorn, grab a snuggly blanket, and pick your favorite holiday movie to watch together. Our top choice is "Elf." No matter how many times I watch that, I laugh every time. Some other good movies are: "The Polar Express," "A Christmas Carol" (the version with Patrick Stewart as Scrooge is my personal favorite) and of course all the claymation classics like "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" and "The Year Without a Santa Claus." I hope you all get the time to enjoy at least one of them over the break.
Last, I have a confession to make. I had an ulterior motive in my last column when I talked about being nice during Black Friday shopping. I have a part-time job in retail and worked my first Black Friday this year. I can honestly say every customer I assisted was very pleasant and understanding, and I only witnessed one person being unpleasant to a co-worker. So, overall, I have to say "Well Done Lehigh Valley;" Keep up the positive attitude.
