Steiner, McCornac return to LHS diving

Two strong, senior divers are returning to Liberty's girls team this season, as Rachel Steiner and Brenna McCornac are expected to lead the Hurricanes.

Steiner was a consistent top performer in 11-dive meets last year, placing fourth in the LVC meet, and McCornac placed fifth in districts, also last year.

Coach Jeff Zettlemoyer will also dive Samantha Kincaid and Rachel Finn.

Liberty's boys currently have one diver, freshman, David Darlington.

"He is coming along, a work in progress. The boys side might be wide open. I don't know what Parkland has, and I don't think the Emmaus boys have 11 dives," Zettlemoyer said.

Sophomore, Delaney Davis, will also dive for the Hurricanes, diving during the boys competitions in dual meets. Since only three or four divers per gender, depending on how many lanes the pool has, are allowed, Davis will still have the opportunity to compete and score, rather than sitting on the bench.

Also out for Liberty's diving team are Hannah Grinchuk, Meryam Okumus, Lauren Pommens, and possibly, Brianna Medina.

"I want to try and keep everybody active," said Zettlemoyer.

Steiner's best dives are her inward dive pike and her reverse dive pike. The Hurricane senior is working on her front two-and-a-half and her back double.

"Degree of difficulty is important in districts. I'm trying to get my divers higher degrees of difficulty to get to districts," Zettlemoyer said.

McCornac's fifth place finish in districts last year was a pleasant surprise to Zettlemoyer.

"She practiced three-and-a-half hours the Thursday and Friday before districts. It was really something, to dive until she got them," he said.

Zettlemoyer would also like to repeat Liberty's 36-35 victory over Parkland last year at districts.
