Maria E. Scalleat, 66, from Schnecksville, formerly of Hazleton, died on Nov. 22, 2013, in the Hospice House of the VNA of St. Luke's, Lower Saucon Township.
Born June 20, 1947, in Brooklyn, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Jerome and Paula (Giangrasso) Camiola.
A 1969 graduate of Duquesne University, she earned a Bachelor's degree in education and a Master's degree from Wilkes University in 1999.
She was a middle school teacher and literacy coach in the Hazleton Area School District for the last 18 years.
A member of St. Joseph the Worker Roman Catholic Church, Orefield, she will forever be remembered as a devoted wife, loving and caring mother, dedicated Nona, and someone who received joy from making others happy.
In addition to her husband, Joseph, she is survived by children, Jolene M. Mitich of Fogelsville, Joseph C. of Alburtis, Marissa D. Scalleat at home; siblings Dorothy Balsamo of Philadelphia, Jerianne Simone of Chalfont, Arthur Camiola of North Carolina, John Camiola of North Wales; and grandchildren Brianamarie, Jessica, Lennox, Layla and Lily.
She was predeceased by a grandson, Nicco Joseph Scalleat.
