Local teen wins national championship

Morgan Billig, 16, the daughter of Diana and Dwight Billig of New Tripoli, recently competed at the American Royal National Championship Horse Show in Kansas City, Mo.

Billig topped a field of the nation's best Saddlebred riders to win the National Championship for American Saddlebred Three Gaited Show Pleasure horses with riders 14-17 years of age.

Billig bested a field of 15 horses and riders to win the title over competitors from across the United States.

Her horse, CH Meritage Signed Sealed Delivered is a 7 year old mare Billig has been teamed with for the past three show seasons.

Last year, Billig and the same horse were named Reserve World Champion of Champions at the Worlds Championship Horse Show in Louisville, Ky.

No stranger to the winners circle, Billig is a third-generation horse woman who has earned national and world titles since her first Worlds Championship Horse show at age 8.

Her mother and uncle, TV star Carson Kressley, are also nationally ranked equestrians.

Her great-grandmother, the late Pauline Kressley was also a well-known horse show competitor out of her Kressleys Pony Farm in Orefield.

Billig rides under the direction of Kierson Farm, Flemington, N.J. and Devore Stables, Sonora, Ky.

In addition her equestrian accolades, she is an honor student and a member of the Northwestern Lehigh High School girls softball team.
