Liberty High School's girls basketball team will be led by new head coach Becky Soto, replacing Amy Yencho who has taken a coaching position at DeSales University.
Soto, who works at Northeast Middle School and coached there for five years, decided it was the right time to come to Liberty.
"It was brought to my attention, and I weighed my options," said Soto, who also coached at Stroudsburg High School for four years.
Soto has three priorities for herself and the Hurricanes: family, school, and basketball. In fact, Soto considers her players and coaches to be one family. Soto also considers herself to be approachable and wants her players to view her as such.
"The kids need to have personal goals, and once they do, they will reach those goals," she said.
Soto is expecting a long line of familiar faces from Northeast, recalling how she would bring her middle school team to Liberty to watch the Hurricanes play.
"Amy left a good program in good standing. We have high expectations," said Soto.
Soto will be assisted by Jackie Markle, Terry Marcincin, Dan Kennedy, and Teddy Street.
