Jon Larson has been named Freedom's new head swimming coach, replacing Reik Foust, who has stepped down for work-related reasons.
Larson is also the head coach of Emmaus Aquatic Club, a competitive swimming club in the Lehigh Valley.
"I swam for Freedom myself. Since then, I've been all over the country. I always kept my eye on Freedom, so when the position opened up, it seemed like a good fit," Larson said.
Previously, Larson worked at Penn State for ten years as pool coordinator and head coach of Big Cat Aquatics, becoming an assistant coach for Penn State, holding that spot for two years.
"I've been coaching for close to 30 years, and the one area I have no experience in is high school swimming. I'm just trying to figure out the names of the kids. I know seven or eight out of 30, so the bulk is what I'm working on now," he said.
Larson has introduced sprint training and aerobic training to Freedom's swim program, but he wants the Patriots to know why they are doing it.
"I can tell the kids are still feeling it out. I guess my biggest goal is to show them the biggest reason to stay," said Larson.
Larson will be assisted by Freedom graduate, Chelsea Vossler.
