High hopes for Liberty

In the short time Liberty girls basketball coach Becky Soto has been with the Hurricanes, Soto has seen a very athletic team with well-educated players who follow direction well.

Although Soto was reluctant to mention names so early in the preseason, Soto expects to have five seniors on the team, one of which is Kali Shumock, an all-conference player.

"I have high expectations [of the Hurricanes]. I'm unlimited," said Soto.

Soto believes that positive reinforcement will go a long way during the 2013-2014 girls basketball season.

"They will give you a lot if you give them positive words. To coach with me, you have to have a heart, and have an ear to listen," Soto said.

Soto especially likes the diversity of Liberty.

"Coming to practice excites me. From try-outs, to cuts, to setting goals, I do everything face-to-face so there's no confusion," said Soto.

The Hurricanes will take the upcoming season day-by-day and game-by-game.

"There are a lot of competitive teams here, and that's amazing," she said.

Soto also pointed out that there are five positions on the floor to fight for.

"They're excited and already talking about how far we can go," said Soto.
