Student profile: Owen M. Evans, Liberty HS
Grade: 12
Family members: My parents are Roger and Moira Evans and I have a brother, Schuyler, who is a freshman at Liberty.
Favorite subject: My favorite subject this year is macroeconomics. I love it because it gives me a whole new perspective on the world. I also love math because it is logical and puts an order to things that would otherwise seem meaningless. Lastly, I love history because I have always been a major history buff and love to learn more about it.
Activities: I am a sousaphone player and section leader for the Grenadier band, a member of First Company, as well as a tuba player for the orchestra. I am a member of chorus, National Honor Society, Mock Trial Team and involved in student government. I am the co-overall chair at Liberty for BASD Mini-Thon. I also am involved in Liberty Theatre and am lucky enough to be one of two theater leaders this year. Other activities include being an altar server as well as a Life Scout for Boy Scouts working toward the rank of Eagle Scout.
Next steps: I will definitely be attending college and studying economics.
Career goals: My dream job would be to be Chairman of the Federal Reserve.
Heroes: My combined heroes are my family. When I look around I see how very lucky I am to have the kind of family I do. My other hero is also a group. From a young age attending Liberty football games with my dad, I always dreamt of being a member of the Liberty Band. The directors and members of that group are such a great inspiration and I feel lucky to have spent my four years of high school having been a member.
Volunteer/community work: I have volunteered for Special Olympics and the Phoebe Home in Allentown, but my main volunteer contribution has been working on the BASD Mini-Thon, which is in its second year. Mini-Thon is a 12-hour dance marathon that raised money for kids with pediatric cancer. It is inspired by the IFC Panhellenic Dance Marathon at Penn State.
Likes: My likes include playing in the band at football games, Reddit, watching movies, Breaking Band, Tech Week for an upcoming theater production and going to school every day.
Dislikes: I dislike homework, bullying, early morning band, hipsters and reality television.
Greatest accomplishment (so far): Helping to create the BASD Mini-Thon last year was one of my most important accomplishments.
Advice for peers: Get involved in your school! Be yourself. Don't be afraid to do something different.
