Breslin, Ridyard and Fadero made their first appearance before the BASD school board Nov. 11 to discuss their plans for the new Nitcheman MS.

Robin Breslin presented board members with a schematic of what the school will look like and the various features being incorporated into the new building.

"We have the first of many updates here with Breslin Architects," said Facilities Director Mark Stein.

The schematic design includes establishing the building layout and adjacencies, site layout, exterior building form and the completion of PlanCon A and B.

The firm ran through what has been done to date and gave the board some input, said Stein.

Traffic control was a large part of the presentation of the design. Breslin said that there is left turn back-up during morning drop off with the current school building, and showed what the firm has come up with to prevent that from happening with the new building. The new school would have a dedicated bus lane that can fit up to 10 buses at a time, and an area for parents to drop off and pick up their children that is separated from the bus area. Traffic would also be one way.

The bus lane and parent area can also be used for additional parking during off hours for the gym and theater.

Changes were also made to the orientation of the auditorium and where the administration area will be placed in relation to the guidance area. The auditorium orientation was changed to limit the public's access to the rest of the school during events in the facility at the request of the board.

Breslin went over the entire plan starting with the exterior to the third floor and the playing fields discussing grading, emergency exits, lighting and classroom features. This early design still requires board approval, but is thus far ahead of schedule.
