Archie L. Follweiler Sr.

Archie L. Follweiler, Sr., 82, died Nov. 24, 2013, in his home in Krums-ville.

He was predeceased by his wife Shirley M.(Sarig) Follweiler in 1991.

Born in Stony Run, he was a son of the late George D. and Barbara ( Kunkel) Follweiler.

He grew up on the family Stony Run Fruit and Berry Farm.

He became a truck driver and later a representative for the Atlantic Richfield Co., after which he became the owner and operator of the former Sunoco and Arco gas stations on Route 100, Foglesville, until 1972.

He and his wife purchased the Kempton Hotel and operated it until 1979.

He later formed the Kempton Excavating Co. and also operated the Krumsville Inn and finally returned to the Kempton Hotel, later selling it to his daughter Jody in 2004.

A 1949 graduate of Kutztown High School, he was a member and former fire chief of the Kempton Fire Company.

His survivors include a son, Archie L. Jr. and his wife Virginia (Grim) of Kutztown; daughter Jodi L., wife of Bobby Bowlin, of Kempton; sisters Dorothy Madeira of Arkansas, Grace Stump of Kutztown, Lila, wife of Ted Lichtenwalner of Wescosville; brothers Wayne of Shoemakersville and Warren of Kempton; and a granddaughter, Courtney R. Follweiler.

He was predeceased by siblings Arlene and George J.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no formal service and interment to be private.
