2012: a look back

The 2012 Thanksgiving Day football game belonged to Catasauqua in a convincing 52-21 victory over the Kids.

After running the table up to the District 11 finals, the Roughs were coming off a heartbreaking loss to Pen Argyl for the championship, and perhaps no one was quite sure how this game would play out.

Catty trailed at one point 6-3 in the first half, and led by just 10 points at the half, 23-13. But, the Roughs came out of the locker room and exploded for 29 unanswered points at Alumni Field in the second half. The win gave the Roughs a 12-1 mark on the year.

For Catty, it was their second-straight win in the rivalry game, they won 20-6 in 2011.

They will look to make it three in a row on Nov. 28 at Muhlenberg College this year. The 2012 victory was their biggest in the matchup since Catty's 1995's 35-0 thumping of the Kids. Northampton still leads the all-time series with a record of 54-32-4.

Eric Matz, who was coming off an injury and was limited in the team's loss to the Knights, was named the Catty MVP of the game for his presence on both sides of the ball, which included a 34-yard TD run.

Northampton's MVP was QB Nick Cook, who threw for two TDs in the loss.

Catty QB Zack Bradley threw for three TDs in the game and finished 7-for-10 for 198 yards. Alex Parker caught a TD and ran for another. Ra'Von Burton rushed for a game-high 120 yards on 15 carries. Zach Stopay returned an interception for a TD and scored on a TD pass as well.

Catty led 3-0 after the first quarter on a 23-yard field goal by Joe Harakal.

Cook would find Kyle George on an 18-yard TD throw for a 6-3 lead. Bradley answered with a throw to Paryss Marshall for a 44-yard TD to make 10-6, and a Parker 10-yard TD run made it 16-6.

Catty would increase the lead on a 30-yard INT return from Stopay to make it 23-6. But the Kids answered back on a 40-yard TD pass from Cook to Jared Bauer to cut it to 23-13 before the half.

Catty would score four-straight TDs in the third and early fourth quarters to put the game away.

Bradley hit Parker on an 18-yard TD pass to make 30-13, before Matz's 34-yard run made it 37-13.

A Marshall INT return and a Parker two-point run made it 45-13. Bradley's 45-yard TD pass to Stopay capped Catty's scoring to make it 52-13.

Julian Tabb's 48-yard TD run was followed by a Cook two-point conversion to cap Northampton's scoring.
