Letters to The Editor Candidates' Post-Election Comments
Heidelberg Twp Supervisor
My only campaign strategy was to put out a dozen or so signs indicating my intent three days before the election.
I mailed nothing and handed out nothing at the polling place.
I believe my actions over the years would have demonstrated my dedication, commitment and service to my community.
I have served on committees and am currently serving as an auditor for the township.
I am committed and dedicated to continually work for the public good of my community.
Charlie Perich
South Whitehall
Commissioners
The voters of South Whitehall have given me a chance to serve another four years as a commissioner. It comes with headaches and frustrations at times, but also with heartening triumphs and accomplishments for our community.
Thomas Johns
I am honored and grateful to continue to have the opportunity to serve the residents of South Whitehall Township as your commissioner.
I am looking forward to continuing work with staff, residents, businesses as well as all of the partnerships we have developed to bring great things to our community.
Thank you for your vote of confidence and please know I will continue to do my best to be a good representative, listener and steward of our South Whitehall Township."
Christina "Tori" Morgan
North Whitehall
Supervisor
I want to thank the people who helped with the campaign and residents who cast their votes. I'm eager to begin my term as supervisor and look forward to working with the other members of the board to resolve the issues facing North Whitehall Township.
Rich Celmer
L.C. Commissioner District 2
I commend Dr. Dougherty on winning another term on the Lehigh County Board of Commissioners.
He is a dedicated public servant who has done a good job for the county, and I respect his abilities.
I was truly honored to have attained almost 5,000 votes from voters all across District 2.
I believe that was the result of hard work, meeting the voters, and spreading the word about my positions.
I am grateful to those who voted for me, and to those who worked so tirelessly on my behalf.
I assure all of them that my commitment to public service remains intact, and that I will always be very involved in my community.
I wish Dr. Dougherty well in his next four-year term, and I hope that he will be supportive of our new county executive, who will need the support of moderates on the board of commissioners in order to keep Lehigh County moving forward.
Susan Ellis Wild
Thank you to all of the people who voted for me for a four-year term as county commissioner.
It was a campaign based on my background, experience, leadership, and a record of results. Both the primary and the general election were hotly contested so I am especially proud to be the voters' choice.
Any successful campaign is a team effort. Special thanks is extended to treasurer Bill Royer, webmaster Everette Carr, and my wife Anne Dougherty who provided loving support and sage advice.
Also, thank you to all of the volunteers who made phone calls, put up signs, made donations, and worked the polls.
It is going to be a challenging future for the county. We are spending more than we are earning through property taxes.
That cannot continue. We have to work with the state to reform the property tax system in order to remove some of the burden from property owners.
Attention also has to be made to enhancing efficiency in county offices, and encouraging intergovernmental cooperation and regionalization to cut costs.
Continuing economic development must be encouraged to provide jobs and keep taxes low.
Percy H. Dougherty, PhD
L.C. Executive
I am grateful to the voters for my election and will be following through on my commitment to involve them more in the county's decisions and provide the services they need as effectively as possible.
