The Northampton Area Historical Society appeared before borough council Nov. 7 to present its case for $50,000 in funding.
The group was unsuccessful in obtaining a grant from Northampton County.
The funding sought would be used for continued renovations of the Siegfried Railroad Station.
While the society's spokesperson, Irene Urban, did not directly seek funding from the borough, council and the administration agreed to draft a letter to Norfolk Southern Railroad, owner of the station.
Continued improvements to the Siegfried Station have been ongoing for the last decade. Work has included a new roof and repairs and painting on some of the sides of the historic building.
The society has $1,800 in its account which will go toward continued work on the station.
Officials said grants and donatons would be much easier to obtain if Norfolk Southern were to deeds the property over to the society or the borough.
Harold Smith, longtime president of the North-ampton Area Historical Society, and board member Sonia Csencsits were also present at the meeting.
The Siegfried station once served as a bustling passenger train station. Norfolk Southern trains ship cargo by rail on the tracks, located on the west side of the station.
Also during the meeting, Daniel Micio, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 59, appeared before council to present plans for a tiered flower bed at the Canal Street Park. The project is required for Micio to earn Eagle Scout rank. Micio said he will submit plans to the Minsi Trails Council.
Borough officials noted they support Micio's efforts to construct the flower beds at the park. Micio will raise money for the project through fundraising ventures.
