LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

LV Christian HS: Sports teams qualify for district competition

Much has happened in the past few weeks at Lehigh Valley Christian.

Oct. 26 was the first craft fair. Vendors sold scarves, necklaces, bags and candles and the LVC snack shop was open for the day along with a bake sale. This event is expected to progress in the future with more sellers and buyers.

Sports related, our teams have been doing extremely well. The boys soccer team made it to district competition against Schuylkill Haven High School Oct. 28. Even though the team lost 3-0, many of the teachers, parents and students who came to cheer the players on said they played the best they had all season.

Our cross-country team also made it to district competition. The boys team came in fourth place in the A division, only 5 points behind Shenandoah Valley, the third place team. Steven Holden set a personal record of 19 minutes, 30 seconds at the district meet and was 9 seconds away from going to the state cross-country meet. It is expected he, along with other members of our team, will qualify for state level competition next year.

Our three senior girls ran individually, but still had great races.

The fall sports banquet will be Nov. 15. Students dress up and come to the school to celebrate their team's season and how their team members have progressed.

Basketball practices and winter conditioning for spring sports like track and spring soccer will start soon.

Nov. 1 was our outreach day. All the students went out into the community in groups including students and teachers and served others. Some groups went to different elementary schools or churches in the area to help clean up or teach children. Other groups went to the CareNet crisis pregnancy center, Push the Rock, Habitat for Humanity or a local homeless shelter. Students love this day in the school year because they get to show others the love of God.

Some of our students will also be helping serve at the Lehigh Valley Prayer Breakfast Nov. 12. Others will attend the Silver Ring Thing at Cedar Crest Bible Fellowship Church Nov. 13. This is an event challenging teens to make a commitment to moral purity.

The drama club has been working very hard this year. Club members are selling colored poinsettias to help raise money. This year for the winter production, the club is doing a radio show of "It's a Wonderful Life."

David Hegedus from Children's Tuition Fund will address the Whitehall Chamber of Commerce Nov. 14 about how tax dollars can be used to support non-profit educational institutions through the EITC and OSTC programs.
