Liberty: Alumni Day donations sought
Liberty High School will hold the annual Alumni Day in May, 2014. Donations are needed of new or gently used items such as house decorations, household items, crafts, toys, unopened food items for themed baskets (movie night, cooking, candy, gardening), pet items and containers/baskets as well as gift cards, tickets to local events and similar items. Donations will be accepted at the LHS Community Information Technology Research Center, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. All proceeds benefit the LHS Community Information Technology Research Center, and the LHS College and Career Resource Center.
Northeast: Veterans Day concert Nov. 10
There will be an Allentown Band concert in honor of Veteran's Day at 3 p.m. Nov. 10 in the Northeast MS auditorium, 1170 Fernwood St. The program will feature 30 top instrumental music students from the school in the "An American Celebration" selection.
Marvine: Baby care items needed
The Marvine Family Center is collecting gently used baby items which include clothes, supplies, baby food, formula, diapers, wipes and any baby skin care items. Donations may be made at the Marvine Family Center. The Marvine Family Center is part of the Parents As Teachers program that works with pregnant woman until their children reach the age of 5.
Spring Garden: Race for Hope participant
Spring GardenES paraprofessional Debra Williams will participate in the National Brain Tumor Association Race for Hope, Nov. 3, in Philadelphia. She will be walking with family and friends in memory of her husband, Bill Williams, who lost his battle with brain cancer. LVCHSA: Photo exhibit opens Nov. 7
The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts will host the free, open to the public exhibit "In the Moment" by photographer Larry Fink from Nov. 7 to 30. The show is part of the Olympus Invision Photo Festival. The opening reception and talk-back with with the artist is from 5 to 7 p.m. Nov. 7 in the Fowler Art Gallery, 675 E. Broad St., Bethlehem.
Fink is a professional photographer and photographic teacher for more than 50 years. He has had solo exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art, Whitney Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Art and Musee de l'Elysee- Switzerland, among others. Awards included John Simon Guggenheim, National Endowment for the Arts and Photography fellowships
Freedom: Choir members in Song Fest
The FHS Choir traveled to Penn State for the Men of Song Festival recently. Fourteen schools participated along with the Penn State Glee Club in the full day event, during which FHS senior Ian Bethmann was a soloist.
Freedom: Students tryout for District Chorus
Seven FHS students represented BASD at the PMEA District 10 Chorus auditions. Ian Bethmann ranked third in the Bass 2 category out of over 120 basses that auditioned. Ian will go on to represent Freedom for the second consecutive year at the District 10 Chorus festival Jan. 9 to 11, 2014.
Freemansburg: Students on new CD
Four student writers and four student readers from the FES 2012-2013 fourth grade ELA classroom at Elementary School have been recorded on the newly released Bach Choir of Bethlehem 2013-2014 holiday C.D., "A Child's Christmas in Bethlehem". Participating in the combination of stories, poems and carols were Carla Victoria Lugo, Laila-Lis Roque and Emma Sensale, poets; Jaida Caraballo, poet and reader; and Jayda Malave, Shawn McDonald and Misael Vega, readers. The opening words on the C.D. were written by fourth graders Sensale and Caraballo.
The Moravian Bookstore will be holding a promotional event for the release of this CD sometime in Nov. with the student poets and readers as guests. The participants are students of Jane Gilrain.
Broughal: Turning Point benefit
Broughal ES staff held a donation drive to benefit Turning Point of the Lehigh Valley in Support of the National Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. All donations go to Turning Point of the LV.
