NASD board approves teacher hires
Several teacher appointments have been approved by the Northampton Area School Board.
The board, with two school directors absent at the Oct. 28 meeting, voted 7-0 to approve the following, on recommendation of the administration:
· Harold Price, short-term substitute German teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective Oct. 17 through Jan. 16, 2014, at the hourly rate of $18.02, without benefits;
· Adria Rios, chemistry teacher at Northampton Area High School, effective on or before Jan. 2, 2014, at a salary of $56,526, prorated, with benefits.
· Additions to the athletic event staff for the 2013-14 school year: Joseph Billy, chain crew; Joseph Celin, football site manager (Nazareth); Barret Kohrt, spotter-scorekeeper; Earl Peck, football scoreboard (Nazareth); Lucas Schoeneberger, football site manager (Nazareth), and Andrew Weaver, ticket collector (Nazareth);
· Erik Tracy, long-term substitute special education teacher, effective Nov. 4 for the remainder of the 2013-14 school year. His salary will be $49,198, pro-rated.
· Extend the contract with Barbara Carrington for speech and language services at Colonel John Siegfried Elementary School at a cost not to exceed $4,000; and
· Additions and deletions to the substitute listing for the 2013-14 school year.
The board, by voice votes at the Oct. 28 meeting, also approved, on recommendation of the administration:
· Resignation of Erin Miller as Northampton Area Middle School yearbook advisor, effective Oct. 16;
· Additions to the NASD volunteer master listing for the 2013-14 school year: Elizabeth Bilheimer, Derrick Devaney, Susan Regalis, Jennifer Rubino, Precie Schroyer, George Wolf Elementary School; Stephanie Bragg, Melissa Updegrove, Borough Elementary Schools; Julie DelPriore, Moore Elementary School; Wayne Mery, athletic; and
· Resignation of Ronald S. Miller, school police officer, effective Oct. 23.
Under finances, the board, with two school directors absent, voted 7-0 to approve the following on recommendation of the administration:
· Disposal of equipment and components by trade-in sale to HP Networking, Catalyst for Change promotion for $17,831 to be returned to NASD;
· Disposal of obsolete equipment and components by sale to Responsible Recycling Services LCC, for $1,825; and
· Portnoff Law Associates Ltd., to collect the 2013 delinquent real estate taxes, per the addendum;
Under miscellaneous, the board voted 7-0 to approve the following items, on recommendation of the administration:
· Donated use of the Northampton Area Middle School and Northampton Area High School cafeterias and gymnasiums by NASD for the Dakota C. Galusha Memorial Fund Sixth Annual Basketball Tournament, March 7-9, 2014;
· A waiver for the expulsion hearing for a Northampton Area High School student.
· The donation of library books from Anna Rodriguez and Michael Geiger for Northampton Area High School library; and
· Donation of supplies, valued at $2,012.10, from PepsiCo, for Northampton Area School District students.
