Kids will head to Boyertown
Just when you thought Northampton's final crack at gaining its first victory of the season was going to come on Thanksgiving against Catasauqua, that sneaky contingency game appears on the calendar.
The K-Kids hit the road this Friday night to Boyertown to have one final task on their season before their big contest against the Rough Riders in a few weeks.
Sitting at 0-10 on the season following last week's 41-20 defeat to Whitehall, Northampton still is upbeat about this week's opportunity.
"Our guys are still enthusiastic and coming to practice everyday," said head coach Jeff Brosky. "We haven't had any players bail on us and the kids still want to play football and finish this year out."
Boyertown may serve as that bait for Northampton's first win of the season, as they enter the contest at 6-4.
Playing in the Suburban One Conference's Pioneer Division, Boyertown has faced its share of quality opponents, as teams like Spring-Ford, who lost to Whitehall in the season opener and an undefeated Pottsgrove team are two of the featured teams in the conference. Despite having six wins on the year, Brosky looks at this contest as an opportunity to surprise a team that doesn't feature many big play potential pieces.
"We look at this conference similar to the MVC and Boyertown compares to Stroudsburg," Brosky said. "They have a big defensive end and some big interior lineman, but they don't have great team speed or any players that can really break plays. I think we match up well with them in that sense."
And matching up with Boyertown is the first thing Northampton has to get out of the way heading into this weekend's contest.
Playing against an opponent that has similar measurables has been a problem for the Kids this season. A victory this week could pay huge dividends for them as they patiently wait for their Turkey Day clash against Catty.
"If we can get a win, it would be a great motivator for our kids heading into Catty," said Brosky. "Our guys are in the right state of mind and hopefully we can take advantage of some mistakes and turn this into a win."
