LEHIGH VALLEY WEATHER

Fire and water

The Allen Township Fire Company believes an agreement recently reached with the Bethlehem City Water Authority will improve its overall service.

The agreement with the water authority calls for the township to dig trenches for water lines. The fire company will pay for the plumbing and materials, officials said at their October meeting.

Fire Chief Nick Lawlik said the new setup will greatly improve water pressure and volume when the fire company trucks and personnel respond to calls.

In a separate development involving the fire company, the board of supervisors indicated the fire company purchased a small piece of equipment that allows it to reach difficult places, such as along the Appalachian Trail. A tank for firefighting will be fitted on company equipment.

In addition to recent fire calls responded to in the township, the fire company was also dispatched to two structure fires in Lehigh Township and in Northampton.

Also, the supervisors will vote on bids they received for municipal waste and recycling at the Nov. 14 meeting. The bids are currently being reviewed by township officials.
