Northampton Community College

Southside Center Tours

There will be an informational session and a tour of the Southside center, Fowler Campus, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 12. The talks will be on dental hygiene, hotel / restaurant management and medical assistant programs. Call for information.

Author Hart to speak Nov. 14

Elva Treviño Hart will speak at 11 a.m. to noon Nov. 14 in the David A. Reed Community Room, College Center, Main Campus. The author of" Barefoot Heart: Stories of a Migrant Child", she will discuss the day-to-day struggles of those who work in the fields while encountering an environment hostile to those who are not literate in English.

The daughter of migrant workers, Hart earned a master's degree from Stanford University and worked for 20 years in computer science/engineering before leaving the corporate world to become a storyteller. Admission is free and open to the public. For more information call 610-861-5300.

Main campus open house Nov. 23

NCC will hold an open house frOm 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at its main campus. Participants will learn about the college's more than 100 academic programs, tour the campus and meet faculty members and current students. Questions will be answered by the professionals in admissions, financial aid and career services. The event will begin at the Arthur L. Scott Spartan Center. For information, call 610-861-5500.

Moravian College

Vespers programs begin Dec. 6; preview is Nov. 15

The Moravian College Christmas Vespers preview will be held at 7:30 p.m. (prelude begins at 7 p.m.) Nov. 17 in Foy Hall, Hurd Campus. The College Christmas Vespers will be held at 8 p.m. Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14 and at 5 p.m. Dec. 8 and 15 at Central Moravian Church, adjacent to the Hurd Campus. Admission is by ticket only (being sent out Nov. 18 to 22). Call 610-861-1336.

'Proof' play, art works Nov. 7 to 10

The Moravian College Theatre Company will present the play "Proof" by David Auburn at 8 p.m. Nov. 7 to 9 and 2 p.m. Nov. 10. The play is centered on a recently deceased genius mathematician and his caretaker daughter, exploring the shades of grey between genius and mental instability. Director Christopher Shorr has incorporated elements of two Pennsylvania artists into aspects of the production. The set design will feature two metal sculptures created by artist Steve Tobin. An exhibit of drawings by artist Michael Wysochansky will run concurrent with the performances.
