Two commercial vehicles were placed out of service last month in Whitehall because of brake issues.
A crushed car carrier also was taken out of service because of inadequate tie-downs, said Lt. Ribello Bertoni, Whitehall police patrol division commander in a report to Police Chief Linda Kulp, Mayor Edward D. Hozza Jr. and the township commissioners.
Five unannounced days are reserved this month for the township police weight team to inspect triaxle and 18-wheel trucks.
Triaxle truck traffic has increased in Whitehall with trucks transporting debris to a quarry site off Coplay Road.
Also in September, police issued nine citations to drivers of commercial trucks. Another six citations were issued to drivers of non-commercial vehicles. State police and federal authorities were informed about the commercial motor vehicles that were stopped.
Police contacted drivers of 12 commercial vehicles and made five contacts with non-commercial vehicles.
Police checked the stopped vehicles for federal and state inspection requirements and proper weight allowance, permits and proper license/registration and insurance.
