Morgans faces familiar foe in Central Catholic
A week after a 49-6 homecoming win over Bethlehem Catholic, the Parkland football team will play in another homecoming game of sorts.
Head coach Jim Morgans will face a very familiar opponent, one he led for a large portion of his life. Morgans coached and taught at Central Catholic for 29 years.
He is a graduate of the high school, playing for the Vikings during his high school career.
There will be different emotions going through the coach's head, but it is just another game that he hopes he can lead his Trojans to victory.
"There's a lot of great memories there, and it's a great school," Morgans said.
"It is a little strange and there will be some mixed emotions, but I'm coaching for Parkland and I want us to be successful. My whole focus is winning that football game just like any other game. It will just feel a little different once the game is over."
To add to the homecoming emotions, current Central head coach John Cupples was a player on the 1998 state championship team under Morgans, along with some other coaches on the staff.
"There is a little mixed bag of emotions there," said Morgans. "But just like me, I'm sure John wants to beat his old coach."
Parkland (7-1 overall, 6-1 Lehigh Valley Conference) has been playing complete football on both sides of the ball. On its current six-game winning streak, the Trojans have averaged 37 points on offense and have given up only six points per game.
Central Catholic (2-6 overall, 1-6 LVC) has only scored less than 14 points once this season, but is giving up an average of 26 points per game this season. The Vikings are coming off a 62-35 loss at Nazareth last Friday night.
The Trojans are looking to stay tied atop the conference standings with Whitehall or Easton as the Zephyrs and Red Rovers square off this weekend.
