Oct. 29 is the last day, under certain conditions, to file an application for an official absentee ballot. Sample ballots are available for inspection Oct. 31.
The Emmaus police will be participating in the National Prescription Drug Take-back Day 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at the Emmaus Police Department, 400 Jubilee St. The officers will be collecting any unused, unwanted and expired prescription drugs.
The GFWC-PA-Woman's Club of Emmaus will hold a candidates' night, 7 p.m. Oct. 28 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets. The club will also host a Halloween Card Party, 11:30 a.m. Oct. 31 in the church's parish hall. There is a cost to attend. A light lunch will be served. The public is invited to attend both programs. There will be a screening of the student horror films entered in the Emmaus Arts Commission's Film Festival 2 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Emmaus Theater.
Emmaus' Trick or Treat night is 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31.
Emmaus Senior Citizens group meets the first Friday of each month 1 p.m. at St. Matthew's Church, Fourth and Ridge streets. Any local senior citizen is welcome to attend. Singer Erin Kelly will entertain Nov. 1. There will be an auction Nov. 8. Members should bring items to be auctioned off. Musician Rick Digerolamo will entertain Nov. 15. St. John's Lutheran Church, Fifth and Chestnut streets, will hold an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner 4 to 7 p.m. Nov. 2. There is a cost to attend; children under five years of age are admitted at no cost.
The Emmaus Garden Club will meet Nov. 5 at Faith Presbyterian Church, North Second and Cherokee streets. Gretchen Lea, an interior and exterior designer and a master gardener, will present "Deck the Halls with Garden Materials." Doors open 12:30 p.m. and the program follows 1 p.m. The public is welcome; you do not need to be a resident of Emmaus to attend.
The Emmaus Farmers Market is held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Sunday through Thanksgiving, in the parking lot of National Penn Bank, 235 Main St. For information, visit www. emmausmarket.com.
Emmaus Borough Council meets 7 p.m. Nov. 4 and 18. The borough offices will be closed Nov. 11 in commemoration of Veterans Day and Nov. 28 and 29 for the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Emmaus Historical Society will meet 7 p.m. Nov. 20 at St. John's Lutheran Church parish hall, Fifth and Chestnut streets. The program, "The Emaus World War I Homecoming," will describe Emmaus' Aug. 2 through Aug. 3 celebration in 1919 and the double arch spanning Main and Chestnut streets at the Triangle, erected to welcome the soldiers home following the war.
The historical society museum, 563 Chestnut St., is open noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays and 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. The museum store includes vintage post cards, historic site Christmas ornaments and the Emmaus Historical Society 20th Year Anniversary ornament.
The Shelter House's cookbook is being published to commemorate the Shelter House Society's 60th anniversary. The "Classic American Cookbook," is a collection of over 125 family recipes. The book represents two years of collecting recipes, cooking them for accuracy and taste, selecting the best and getting the book into production. The Shelter House, like the other historical sites, will be open for Emmaus' Old-Fashioned Christmas Dec. 7. Children will be invited to make an ornament to hang on the tree on the Triangle.
The Emmaus Kiwanis Club is holding its annual fruit sale including navels, tangelos and red grapefruit. Also offered is a mixed case. The event also features a holiday pie sale. Orders should be placed by Nov. 17; delivery will be Dec. 7 at JAS Wholesale. To order, call 610-965-3977.

Be sure to mark your calendar for the Friends of the Emmaus Public Library's Wine and Cheese reception and holiday book sale 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Emmaus Public Library. This event serves as the kick off for Emmaus' Old Fashioned Christmas celebration Dec. 7.
The Old Fashioned Christmas festival features fun for the entire family. There will be storytelling at the library. The historic houses will be open noon to 4 p.m. and the Emmaus Historical Society will have extended hours 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. This event also features horse and carriage rides and holiday music on the Triangle.
