Robert S. Phillips, 75, of Neffs, died Oct. 10, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township.

He and his wife Ruth M. (Schneck) Phillips celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary last June 18.

Born May 3, 1938, in Allentown, he was the son of the late David R. and Josephine (Dillon) Phillips.

He was a 1956 graduate of Northampton High School, where he participated in football, wrestling and track.

After graduation, he spent a year at Valley Forge Military Academy and then a year at Cornell University.

He graduated from Kutztown University in 1962 and earned a Master's degree in education from Lehigh University.

A fifth grade elementary and middle school teacher in the Northwestern Lehigh School District, New Tripoli, for 38 years, he retired in 2000 to spend time traveling and to be with his family.

He was a member of Union Evangelical Lutheran Church, Schnecksville, where he formerly served on the church council and was a member of the Journeymen's Ministry Group.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Jan P. Keeler and her husband, Kevin, of Emmaus, Jill A. Schaffer and her husband, Terry, of Jim Thorpe, Joy A. Snyder and her husband, Eric, of Brodheadsville; brothers Richard of Grass Valley, Calif., and Ronald of Gainesville, Va.; grandchildren, James, Alex, Kayla, Austin and Karyssa; and great-grandson Cole.
