Preston B. Pfeifly

Preston B. Pfeifly, 63, formerly of New Tripoli, died Oct. 12, 2013, after a brief illness at Nittany Medical Center, State College.

Born March 21, 1950, in Reading, he was a son of Franklin Pfeifly, formerly of New Tripoli, and the late Arlene (Shollenberger) Pfeifly.

He was employed by the Wolfe Petroleum Co., Matlack Trucking and later he was the owner and operator of his own truck.

He attended Northwestern Lehigh High School and was a member of Weisenberg Lutheran Church, New Tripoli.

He received an Associate degree from Saint Francis College of Loretto, and was later ordained through Columbus Cathedral Church and graduated from Rhema Bible College.

He served as a tutor for illiterate prisoners, was elected president of the Prison Literacy Council, led a prayer group every morning for the last 20 years and a Saturday evening Bible study group.

He enjoyed running in 10K events and coaching and playing softball.

In addition to his father, he is also survived by two daughters, Rhonda Sue, wife of Ralph Dengler of New Tripoli; Teresa Ann, wife of Larry Neumeyer of Chesaning, Mich.; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; brother Daniel and his wife Shoanna of Heidelberg Township; sisters Audrey, wife of Neil Merkel of Lenhartsville, Carol, wife of Dennis Dorney of New Tripoli, and Lucille, wife of Daniel Walter of Kempton; and many nieces and nephews.

His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Oct. 17, in Robert S. Nester Funeral Home, 8405 Kings Highway, (Route 143), Jacksonville, Lynn Township.

Calling hour begins at 10 a.m. The Rev. Raymond J. Hand will officiate.

Interment will be in New Bethel Zion Cemetery, Long Lane, Kutztown.

Contributions in his memory may be made to the funeral home, to help defray final expenses.
