The Parkland football team is returning home after two straight road wins, at Nazareth and at Freedom. Last weekend the Trojans shutout the Patriots 21-0 in a game dominated by the defense.
"They were incredible, unbelievable" head coach Jim Morgans said. "[Assistant coach] Timmy Monceman does a great job getting those kids ready week in and week out. I can't say enough about the defense, outstanding effort."
Parkland (6-1 overall, 5-1 LVC) will welcome in Bethlehem Catholic (4-3 overall, 3-3 LVC) this Friday night for the homecoming game. The Golden Hawks started off the season with a 4-1 record, but have since lost two in a row, falling 28-14 to Nazareth last Friday.
Parkland has won five straight, riding the legs of its running game and defensive front.
Kareem Williams rushed for a total of 211 yards on 26 carries and recorded two touchdowns last weekend, a 44-yarder and a 72-yard effort. Devante Cross scored on a 68 yard run in the same game, and lit up the Blue Eagles the week before. Eli Redmond has been used more as a slot receiver recently, and caught three touchdown passes from Cross two weeks ago against Nazareth.
The Trojans can score in a variety of ways, and teams no longer can put eight up front to try and stop the run-heavy Parkland offense. They can now throw the ball, and feel good doing it.
"At least now, teams around the league will know that we can throw the football too," Morgans said.
Redmond felt that the offense may grow more with the ability to pass.
"It gives us another element to our offense," said Redmond. "Teams now may be afraid of us passing the ball too so that could open up some runs."
