WESTERN SALISBURY COLUMN Western Salisbury Elementary School PTA potluck supper Oct. 17
Western Salisbury Elementary PTA has a lot going on in the next couple of weeks.
One of the fun things planned is the Family Fun Night being held at the McDonalds on Lehigh Street 5:30 to 8 p.m. Oct. 30. A few teachers will be on hand to help serve and Ronald McDonald will be there between 5 and 7 p.m. There will also be a coloring contest.
The students should have received a paper to color in their weekly communication folder last week. They need to color it and bring it in to McDonalds that night and hand it to a PTA officer. The class with the most participation in the coloring contest will receive a free Happy Meal lunch at school. YUM! Ten percent of sales will go to the WSE PTA. Come out for a dinner with friends and support our PTA.
Speaking of supper, the WSE PTA will host a potluck supper 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 17.
One more item from the PTA is the beginning of Yoga classes 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Tuesdays through Nov. 19. The classes are to be held in the WSE music room, room 117 and are run by Stacy Greenholt. There is a cost and 50 percent of the intake will benefit the PTA.
WSE will open its doors to parents for parent visitation 9:30 to 11 a.m. Oct. 22 and 1:30 to 3 p.m Oct. 24. With this being the first time in 12 years that I do not have a student at Western, I admit it will be a little strange for me not to be sitting in one of those classrooms. I did visit Salisbury Middle School for visitation and enjoyed getting back in touch with those teachers I hadn't seen in a while.
One last item from WSE; the annual Halloween Parade at the school will be held 2 p.m. Oct. 25. Weather permitting, the parade will be outside and the students will walk on the sidewalk around the front of the school. If you are planning to attend, park in either parking lot, walk to the grass in the front of the building and wait outside for the students to come out. If it is raining, they will parade in the gym.
There is a curriculum and technology committee meeting at the administration building 7 p.m. Oct. 28.
Salisbury High School will hold health screenings Oct. 17.
Oct. 30 is the last day of the first marking period for SHS and Salisbury Middle School. Wow, that went fast!
Picture re-take day for SHS is Oct. 31. So, if your student didn't like their picture or you forgot to send in the order form like me, here is your chance to get it retaken.
If you would like to support the Salisbury music programs, you can go to the high school website and print out coupons for the Dan Schantz Greenhouse. The school receives a monetary contribution to the school for every coupon turned in with a minimum purchase of $10.
The Salisbury Township Public Works Department will begin the curbside vacuum leaf collection Oct. 28. The collection will begin in the fifth ward and continue eastward through mid-to- late December. Residents are asked to place their leaves along the edge of the road. To facilitate the vacuum leaf pickup, keep all vehicles away from the area where leaves are piled.
Salisbury Township Trick-or-Treat night is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25.
Jerusalem Western Salisbury church is having a ham and cheese sandwich sale to support their church camp. Orders must be turned in by Oct. 20. The sandwiches are being distributed Nov. 2. If you are interested in placing an order or would like additional information, call 610-965-9441.
