ALBURTIS BOROUGH COUNCIL Water meters on hold; problems with vendor cited
During the Oct. 9 Alburtis Borough Council meeting, council passed a motion rescinding a motion approved Sept. 25 authorizing Executive Secretary Sharon Trexler to purchase water meters, a hand-held device, software and training, because of a problem with the vendor.

President Steve Hill discussed with council the probability of raising the local services tax paid by people employed in the borough from $10 a year to $52 a year as neighboring boroughs and townships have increased this tax. Councilperson Margaret McCormack advised council the Lehigh Valley Chamber Borough Business Revitalization Program has come to an end. McCormack said Mary Himmelberger has been a tremendous help to the borough with her ability to organize projects, produce fliers and more.
The chamber is able to contact Himmelberger and the borough can contract her services for grants, the Historical District needs or other things at $25 per hour for two days a month, totaling $5,200 a year, Trexler said.
In other business, council approved the minutes of their Sept. 25 meeting and the bills were approved for payment, including $138,710.17 to B. F. Brown and Co. for work completed on Church Street.
Council adopted Resolution No. 2013-5 clarifying terms of service for parks and recreation committee members. Kathleen Raines term ends in 2014 and Kyle Bowers term ends in 2017.
A letter was received from the Macungie Ambulance Corps requesting a donation and council decided to donate the same amount as last year.
A letter was received from the Lehigh Valley Planning Commission regarding the Spring Creek properties, reminding the borough the commission is still against it, Hill said.
Trexler told council the Pension State Aid Check to be applied to the Pension Plan amounting to $50,496.66 was received.
