Trojans take on Freedom
The Parkland football team is known for its explosive rushing attack, but it was the Trojans' passing game that shone most brightly in a 47-6 win at Nazareth last Friday night.
Senior tailback Eli Redmond still found the end zone, but his three scores came from the arm of sophomore quarterback Devante Cross. The duo connected for touchdowns of 84 yards, 21 yards, and 75 yards. Cross finished the game throwing for a total of 233 yards and the three touchdowns.
"With the offense that we run, people can stop it by putting a lot of people in the box, and that's what the spread offense is all about," said head coach Jim Morgans.
"We have confidence in Devante to throw the football, and in our receivers. That's what we expected to happen with kids that can throw the ball well, run the ball well, and catch the ball well."
With another solid defensive outing, the Trojans had no problem defeating the Blue Eagles on the road. This Friday night, Parkland (5-1 overall, 4-1 LVC) will once again be playing away from home, travelling to a struggling Freedom (1-5 overall, 1-4 LVC). The Patriots lost to Easton 34-13 last weekend.
Freedom also has a first-year starter at quarterback. Freshman Joe Young started against the Red Rovers and threw for 68 yards and a touchdown, but also threw three interceptions. The Trojan defense will look to pressure the young quarterback.
"Coach [Tim] Monceman is a guy that will put a lot of pressure on a quarterback anyway," said Morgans. "That's part of his coaching. He doesn't run them all of the time but when he does they're successful. I'm sure it will be in his game plan this week."
Parkland will not be looking passed this game, and will look to continue its current four-game winning streak.
