LVPA NEWS: October a busy month
The Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts is going to be teeming with excitement during these upcoming months. Currently, students are working diligently to prepare for the shows and performances in their artistic majors. All the while, various academic clubs and groups are dedicating themselves just as much.
The Charter Arts calendar is packed with artistic events. First, music majors will be holding their "Jazz Café" Oct. 10, in which small ensembles will be performing a wide array of pieces. Charter Arts Jazz Ensembles will be performing in the community, at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem Oct. 17. This will be the first of a "Thursday Evening Series" at the venue.
The Theatre Department's first main-stage show of the year, "Noises Off", will be directed by Kelly Bickert and run from Oct. 25 to 29. This will include actors Teague Fernandez, Jessica Martin, Bayley Carl, Thane Hunsicker and more. Junior Sarah Bauch will be stage-managing and Colleen Jeffries, also a junior, will be assistant directing.
The first second-stage theatre show is going to be "No Exit." It will be directed by 12th Grade student, Brian Ehst, and will run from Nov. 7 through 10.
The Dance Department will be conducting its annual "Dance Soup" performance Nov. 7. This is a show entirely choreographed by senior dance majors.
The school's "Vocalist's Café " will be held at Godfrey Daniels Nov. 7, as well. In this performance, students from any major have the opportunity to share their vocal talents.
On Nov. 14, the Charter Arts Women's Choir will sing at Godfrey Daniels. The Woodwinds and Brass Ensembles will perform Nov. 21 at the same venue. Also, Charter Arts music majors will perform at the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks from 2 to 3 p.m. on every third Sunday of the month. These SteelStacks performances are free to the public.
Many non-artistic events also deserve recognition. On Oct. 28, Charter Arts will be holding its first open house of the year. On Nov. 3, the school's third annual fashion show, titled "Flying Solo: A Celebration of Individuality" will take place at the Wood Dining Room in Lehigh University's Iacocca Hall. The show will present the visions of student designers as well as the latest fashions from Pamela Ptak Couture, Maria Duran Design, Francesca's Collections, Sage, Chico's, and more. An additional open house will be held Nov. 13.
The Charter Arts Scholastic Scrimmage team had its first match of the season against Salisbury HS. It took place at PBS Oct. 8 and will air Nov. 8.
Lastly, the school's annual "Poetry Slam" will be held Dec. 5 at Godfrey Daniels.
Charter Arts had a variety of recent events, as well. The first-ever Songwriter's Café was held at Godfrey Daniels Oct. 3. It featured students from various majors performing their own compositions. This event was organized and made possible by teacher Chet Brown and senior students Keetly Hamill and Felix Rodriguez.
The Music Faculty recital was held Sept. 20. Charter Arts music department faculty shared their great talents while the Visual Art Department faculty displayed their own works in the school's Fowler Gallery.
The Art Appreciation Workshop for adults, taught by visual art teacher Roger Brinker, was such a huge hit over the summer that it was brought back again. It was held four consecutive Monday evenings starting Sept. 30. All of this has kept Charter Arts busy yet enthusiastic throughout the school year.
