This year was the first year for the Northampton Farmers Market, located in the uptown business district off Main Street.
In many ways, the market exceeded the expectations of borough council, attracting countless in the public.
Borough Manager Gene Zarayko recently reported to council the market closed for the year Oct. 1.
"It appears that this venture was very successful," Zarayko said.
Borough planning consultant Victor Rodite was credited with spearheading the farmers market.
Held Tuesday afternoons into the evening, the farmers featured three produce stands from local growers, along with a stand selling baked goods and another offering popcorn.
The market may grow larger in 2014.Officials are exploring contacts for a possible meat stand and another vendor to sell baked goods.
The farmers market is located on a tract of land the borough acquired earlier in the year near the Roxy Theatre, a coffee shoppe and a church.
Councilman Anthony Lopsonzski Sr. said a grant application has been submitted to the state in an attempt to receive casino money to fund the proposed minipark.
The farmers market most likely will remain at the same site, sharing the grounds with the park, if it develops.
