Lower Macungie Township Historical Society meeting 7 p.m. at the Macungie Institute, 510 East Main St., Macungie. The meeting will include a slide show by local trolley expert Doug Peters on the Allentown-Emmaus-Macungie trolley line. The event is co-sponsored by the Macungie Historical Society.

The Lower Macungie Township Historical Society sponsors storyteller Charles Kiernan, who will tell tales that cause people to look under their beds before going to sleep, 7 pm. at the Log House, 5047 Hamilton Boulevard, Wescosville.

The Friends of the 1803 House host A Very Merrie Halloween, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. featuring storytelling and games, a Halloween costume parade and a visit at 11 a.m. from the Wildlands Conservancy with some "not-so-scary" creatures. There will be a baking contest, tours of the historic house and juried crafts and art for sale. Pulled pork platters will be available as well as soups and desserts. Tickets for the pulled pork platters can be purchased in advance at Sweet Memories or the day of the event; take out will be available. Macungie Cool Down Car Show 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Macungie Memorial Park. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. All car, trucks, makes, models and years are welcome. There will also be an outdoor flea market, Halloween costume contest and indoor craft show located in the main building. The 11th annual Newstalk 790 WAEB spaghetti dinner to support the Allentown Rescue Mission, 4 to 7:30 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church, 1533 Springhouse Road, Allentown. Celebrity Radio Host Bobby Gunther Walsh will dish up his famous homemade meatballs to help raise money for the Allentown Rescue Mission. Does class size matter? East Penn Invested Citizens Education Council will host an event "Class Size: It's More Than Just a Number." Experts will discuss the issue and its impact on education and student outcomes. Invited speakers include Dr. Darlene Schoenly, assistant professor of education from Kutztown University and Dr. Robert Root, professor and department chair of mathematics, Lafayette Collete. The event will be held 7 p.m. at the Emmaus High School administration building, 800 Pine St., Emmaus.

Oct. 22
East Penn School Board Candidates Night, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at the Macungie Institute, 510 E. Main Street, Macungie. The League of Women Voters of Lehigh County and EPIC (East Penn Invested Citizens) invite the public to meet the six candidates for East Penn School Director who were successful in securing a spot on the Nov. 5 ballot. Four candidates will be elected in the fall, and will serve for four years on the school board. The position is unpaid. Come and hear the candidates' views on current school and education issues in a non-partisan setting. Audience members are asked to submit written questions. Stay after the program to speak one-on-one with the candidates. The candidates are Alan Earnshaw, Rebecca Heid (Republican and Democratic ballots); Chris Donatelli, Garrett Rhoads (Republican ballot); Ziad Munson, Francee Fuller (Democratic ballot).
