Students inventory campus trees
Students of Frank Kuserk's ecology class and Bartlett Tree Experts Inc. are jointly identifying tree types, recording their GPS coordinates, measuring vital information (e.g. diameter, height, etc.), and assessing the health of each tree on Moravian's campuses. One of the trees, a Scotch Elm near Foy Concert Hall, Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus, has a trunk circumference of 22 feet, three inches, and a height of 85 feet. Kuserk predicts it will dwarf the current state champion, a designation granted jointly by the Pennsylvania Forestry Association and Pennsylvania Forest Service.
Hispanic Heritage events planned
The college will celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month with a number of events in the coming weeks. Observed annually from September 15 to October 15, it celebrates the history, culture, and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.

Professor edits book on female athletes
Moravian College Sociology Professor Joel Nathan Rosen recently released a new book, A Locker Room of Her Own: Celebrity, Sexuality, and Female Athletes, profiling superstar female athletes and the obstacles they face in the public eye. This is the third volume of a collaborative series co-edited with David C. Ogden, associate professor of communication at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and published by University Press of Mississippi.
With a team of contributors, including Moravian College English Professor Martha Reid, A Locker Room of Her Own: Celebrity, Sexuality, and Female Athletes attempts to investigate female athletes and their celebrity status by analyzing the myths that surround them, delving into the role that nostalgia and collective memory play.
Accelerated nursing program added
Students with a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing major can now earn a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing through a new 16-month accelerated program.
Given the rigorous nature of this program, students are encouraged to focus full-time on their studies. Students may be eligible for federal loans or other forms of loans or scholarships. Upon acceptance into the program, applicants may receive counseling from the Financial Aid Office.
