North Catasauqua's Charotin Hose Company firefighters responded to the following calls recently.
CAR CRASH
Aug. 1, 3:53 p.m.
Charotin firefighters responded to a report that a car crashed into a house in the 500 block of Arch Street. A single vehicle lost control and crashed through the wall of the home, causing significant damage to the garage. The driver was still in the car but was not trapped. Northampton Regional EMS evaluated the driver and transported him to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The homeowners were in the house at the time of the accident, but were away from the garage. Although not injured, they were very shaken up. The building inspector was called to the scene, as was a restoration contractor to stabilize and board up the garage wall. The building inspector determined the garage was stable and the occupants were allowed back in that evening.
DWELLING FIRE
Aug. 3, 2:49 a.m.
North Catasauqua firefighters responded with the Catasauqua Fire Department to a structure fire at 30 Second St., Catasauqua. The fire was spotted by a Catasauqua police officer on patrol. He notified the sleeping residents and evacuated them. Catasauqua firefighters laid a supply line from their engine to the scene, but had to stop short due to downed power lines in the street. Ultimately they had three lines stretched and operating. Both North Catasauqua vehicles went to Railroad Street at the rear of the property. A West Catasauqua Fire Station engine took position along Linden Street and stretched an attack line across backyards to the scene of the fire. Han-Le-Co Fire Department joined the North Catasauqua crew in the rear alley. Also responding were Nancy Run Special Services, Greenawalds Rescue, Northampton Regional EMS and Hanover Township EMS. One firefighter was taken from the scene. He was treated at the hospital for dehydration and smoke inhalation, and released.
