Salisbury High School Principal Heather Morningstar announced a dual enrollment program with Seton Hall University, a private Roman Catholic university in South Orange, N.J., at the Sept. 23 curriculum meeting.

An orientation was held Sept. 24 explaining the program for parents.

Beginning this year, students enrolled in German IV, Spanish IV, Honors Anatomy and Physiology, AP Biology, AP Calculus, AP U.S. History and AP World History at the high school have the opportunity to simultaneously earn SHS and Seton Hall University credits.

In addition, Media Management, taught by Kelly Wetherhold has also been approved for dual enrollment with Seton Hall.

Honors Physics I and II, taught by Paul Koba is awaiting approval.

"Students can earn college credits based on the work they are currently doing in their high school classes," Morningstar said. "Additionally, the costs for these courses are significantly reduced as a result of the Project Acceleration Program."

The classes are taught at Salisbury High School by SHS teachers. Morningstar said the credits can transfer to any college or university who will accept Seton Hall University credits. The courses expect the same level of performance as any college course taught on campus.

Only senior, junior and sophomore students are eligible to enroll for Seton Hall courses and students may take no more than two courses per semester. Students could earn up to 22 college credits throughout their high school career.

Students should visit http://www7.shu.edu/admissions/project-acceleration.cfm to establish their Seton Hall University account or complete a paper registration form available in the guidance office.

Completed forms with payment are due by Oct. 16 for this year's dual enrollment courses.

In addition, Superintendent Michael Roth discussed the strategic planning for 2020 at the curriculum meeting.

"The 2013-2014 school year provides the opportunity for the Salisbury Township School District to engage stakeholders in its strategic planning process for 2020," Roth said.

"Over the course of this year, board members, administrators, teachers, students, parents and community members will be invited to provide feedback and thoughts about the question, 'What should education look like in Salisbury in 2020?'"

Roth said volunteers will be asked to participate in various sub-committees including mission and vision, safe and supportive schools, student achievement, special education, gifted education, technology, professional development, facilities and extracurricular activities.
