SALISBURY TOWNSHIP BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

The Salisbury Township employees' pension plan obligation is expected to increase in 2014.

Township commissioners will need to provide for the increase in the 2014 township budget.

The increase is $36,736, from $522,819 in 2012, projected to be $559,895 in 2014.

That includes $264,320 for non-uniformed township employees and $295,573 for township police officers.

A reimbursement of about $71,000 is expected from the commonwealth.

Dec. 30 is the deadline for the township's 2014 contribution to be certified.

Township Manager Randy Soriano and Township Assistant Manager-Director of Finance Cathy Bonaskiewich explained the township's pension obligations to commissioners who had no questions. Bonaskiewich is administration officer for the pension plans.

Commissioners voted 5-0 at the Sept. 26 township meeting to certify the township's Pension Plans Minimum Municipal Obligation for 2014.

In other business at the Sept. 26 township meeting, commissioners voted 5 - 0 to:

ŸSet Halloween Trick-or-Treat in the township for 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 25; and

ŸAuthorize the transfer of $4,800 to G. C. Electric Co., Inc. for the installation of heaters in the Public Works Department building locker rooms. Commissioner Debra Brinton pointed out there is an additional cost of $2,035 in engineering fees.

Also, at the Sept. 26 township meeting, Soriano told commissioners:

ŸTwo public works department employees have been hired. Frank DiMatteo and Matthew Peterson will each be paid $19.61 an hour;

ŸThe first draft of the 2014 budget is expected to be presented to commissioners for review at the 7 p.m. Oct. 10 township meeting.

A car show to benefit the Salisbury High School Football Team Booster Club will held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at the high school. Proceeds from vehicle registration fees go to the club.

During the Sept. 26 commissioners' workshop, Soriano told commissioners:

ŸThe Fire Inspection Program is expected to be brought to the board for consideration of a vote on a new ordinance in November. "We pretty much have an ordinance everyone has endorsed," Soriano said of township officials.

ŸThe Hazard Mitigation Plan, if adopted, would help the township apply for funding, should it be needed.

A request from Salisbury Township School District has been received to close Dauphin Street, 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 31, for the annual bonfire.
