Becahi eyeing trip to playoffs
Things are clear for Bethlehem Catholic's volleyball program, as the Hawks have a firm grip on the LVC's East division heading into the last week of the season.
Becahi sits at 9-6 overall and 9-3 in league play to have clinched an LVC playoff berth with threegames left this week.
They kept that trend moving forward Monday night, knocking off Liberty (8-8, 5-7) in four games 25-20, 26-24, 26-28, 25-9. They squared off against Notre Dame Green Pond last night before rounding out the East division trek against Freedom (5-9, 5-7) tonight and Easton on Friday.
Head coach Paul Abi-Daher feels confident with his group heading into next week's LVC playoffs, but also knows there's room for improvement if the Hawks want to take a stab at winning the league crown, following last year's opening round loss of the LVC playoffs to Emmaus.
"I think we're in the exact same position we were in a year ago," he said. "We have to polish some things up, but we're looking forward to this week and moving on to the league playoffs."
Emmaus, Parkland and Central Catholic will join the Hawks in the LVC tournament next week and the Hawks know that won't be an easy task, as they recently got swept by Parkland and Emmaus. Abi-Daher feels that his team will get matched up with Emmaus in next Monday's semifinal if results work out the way he thinks they will, which will give his team another shot at redemption.
"They're a very strong team and so is Parkland," he said. "I think we are where we want to be, but we just need to stay healthy. It took the kids a little while to get things going this year for us, but they've worked into their roles and it's worked out. We just want to compete for the league title and compete again for the district championship."
Both Freedom and Liberty are hoping to have a shot at districts, as they entered this week on the bubble. The Patriots have Easton, Becahi and Liberty on the schedule this week and need to go 2-1 in order to qualify for districts. Liberty has the same schedule on the agenda and need to finish with the same mark.
