In other business, the supervisors once again discussed the crew leader position. Each one had a copy of the same job description for the proposed position.
Township Manager Alice Rehrig said issues that were objectionable in the original draft had been altered.
Supervisor Keith Hantz said under job responsibilities, in the event the public works director is not present when issues come up, questions should go to the township manager.
Solicitor David Backenstoe changed the wording slightly to "in the event anything comes up not specifically on a list [included in the job description] then it should go to the township manager."
Supervisor Darryl Snover reminded the board that at the last meeting they had considered a temporary appointment between three to six months.
"It is not permanent until we evaluate the temporary position," he said.
Rehrig said the final job description should go to the shop steward and he should be aware of it being a temporary position.
Hantz made a motion to move the description on to the union with the amendment on taking some questions to Rehrig. The motion was approved.
Also during the meeting, Local Government Services requested a letter of intent from the supervisors in order to provide an assessment of the fire company at no cost.
Fire Chief Rick Hildebrand said due to growth in the area an outside opinion is warranted.
"We need a new fire truck." said Hildebrand.
The supervisors will receive a copy of the assessment, which will aid the fire company with grant applications.
Also at the meeting, Supervisor Cindy Miller said a CPA from the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors will review possible financing for the maintenance building.
Hopkins said the review is free and the CPA will research any advice provided. The information would then go to Rehrig who would review it before presenting it to the supervisors.
The township will apply for a $3,142 grant from Monroe County gaming to provide police department training materials. Chief Scott Fogel said the department could upgrade its computer networks to access local, state and national networks.
"There is a lot of value in having more efficiency," Fogel said.
More work stations are needed as some computers are so old that they are not compatible with programs being used. Much training is web based so multiple computers are needed.
Miller said the supervisors should also determine what technology is needed in other departments.
Snover said other departments will receive consideration under the new budget.
Also during the meeting:
· Rehrig reported $6,000 in damages was recovered following an accident at the Berlinsville traffic light. The liable party's insurance is paying for the damages.
· The township received 22 qualified applicants for the road crew. Rehrig asked how to separate the applications. Miller said Rehrig and Frank Zamadics should narrow the number down.
Supervisor Dell Grove said the supervisors had to look for an experienced individual with a CDL license.
· Gary Christman submitted a letter of resignation from the recreation board.
Supervisor Cindy Miller asked if the township should change the number of board members from seven to five because it is difficult getting new members.
Supervisor Sandy Hopkins said the ordinance should be checked to see if a specific number of board members is required.
Hantz said he is comfortable with seven but wants more members who are not associated with baseball.
Two letters of interest were on hand and the township appointed Marian Miller and Ellen Stenger.
