Pritchard preps for districts, Glasgow just short
With match play over and leagues behind them, the Whitehall golf program now focuses its attention on next week's District 11 Championships.
Monday's qualifier, held at Mahoning Valley Country Club, featured Patrick Glasgow for the Zephyr boys. Head coach John Conrad said that junior battled all day, but his round wasn't up to his expectations, finishing with a 100.
"I guess you have those days sometimes," said Conrad.
Conrad said the cut line was 86, and Glasgow wasn't able to qualify for next week's D-11 Championships, ending the season for the talented underclassman.
The Zephs will be represented by senior Loran Pritchard. Pritchard is no stranger to the D-11 tourney, and Conrad believes that experience will help her as she heads to Blue Ridge Country Club next Monday. She finished third last season at the AAA Individual Championships with a 139.
"She's been there before so she knows what it's like," said Conrad.
Pritchard is also no stranger to the site of the Championships in Lehighton, Pa., having played at Blue Ridge CC a number of times before, said Conrad. She'll be looking to advance to the PIAA East Region Individual Championships the following week at Golden Oaks Golf Club in Fleetwood, Pa.
Pritchard wasted no time in preparing for the Championships, texting Conrad to meet for a practice round at Blue Ridge. Conrad said that they'll head there this week to "get a better feel for it," but believes her path to success lies in maintaining the same approach from the start of the season.
"We'll just keep on doing what we've been doing," said Conrad.
Conrad also believes that if Pritchard is having a good day, she is capable of posting an 82, or even lower. He said she finished the season with an 87 average.
With her experience with the course, and in district competition, Conrad said success will boil down to making shots.
"She has experience on the course," said Conrad. "It's a matter of putting it all together when it counts."
The road to the PIAA tourney begins Oct. 7 for Pritchard, and Conrad knows she is ready and raring to go.
"She's excited," said Conrad.
