The recent cool weather didn't stop members of the Northampton Liederkranz from celebrating the summer.
On Saturday, Sept. 14, the Liederkranz hosted its second annual Summer Festival outside of its hall on East Ninth Street in Northampton.
Last year's inaugural festival took place to commemorate the club's 100th anniversary and, given its success, the club's officers decided to host the event again this year.
The celebration, which was open to members and guests of members, was a daylong event that included food, drinks and live entertainment.
"The Summer Festival is intended to give back to the members and to the community," said Liederkranz member Bill Najpauer.
Event guests had a variety of German foods to choose from, including bratwurst and hot dogs with sauerkraut, halupkis, halushki and German potato salad.
Joe Weber's polka band took the stage noon-4 p.m., providing the crowd with some traditional German-style music.
The Beats Workin' band kept the festival going from 5 to 9 p.m. with a repertoire of catchy, upbeat songs.
Those who wanted to continue celebrating after 9 p.m. were welcomed into the club for more food, drinks and a live deejay.
Given the strong turnout and success of this year's Summer Fest, Liederkranz Vice-President Mike Stahl said the club expects to be hosting the event again next year.
