Lady Trojans fall to ACC

The Parkland girls soccer team had only given up two goals through its first 12 games. However, the Trojans gave up one more than that in a single game as Central Catholic (10-0-1) found the back of the net three times on the way to a 3-1 win last Saturday morning at Emmaus High School in the Don Hunt Memorial Tournament.

The Vikettes scored two goals within two minutes of each other early in the first half and added the third two minutes before halftime. Central Catholic had a high scoring efficiency, having totaled four shots in the game, scoring three times.

Sierra Snyder lobbed home a shot for the Vikettes' first goal. Sam Dinardo tallied the other two Central goals on free kicks from just outside the 18-yard box.

"On that first goal we allowed the ball to get into the flank and she was uncontested and hit a great shot," said Parkland head coach Al Haddad. "The two free kicks were both hit well. Those are the kinds of goals you want to give up.

"Our defense showed in the second half that we're tough to score on. I don't see these three goals as the defense having a lapse, I think it was just them taking advantage of three good shots."

Parkland (9-2-2) outshot Central Catholic 11-3, but never really threatened on goal.

In the second half, the Trojans started putting pressure on the Vikettes.

Lauren Madeira crossed a low line drive that Sabrina Ghosh gracefully volleyed into the corner of the net to put Parkland on the board with a little over eighteen minutes remaining.

The Trojans started showing life and found more opportunities at a comeback, but couldn't break through for another late goal.

"We didn't change anything," noted Haddad. "You make changes because things are breaking down tactically. We were breaking down technically. It was just getting the ball down out of the air and playing simple. Our focus in the second half was getting good first touches and playing simple to feet because we would have the time and space to do it."

It was the second conference loss for Parkland, after suffering a 1-0 setback against Emmaus more than two weeks ago.
