State and league champions from last season were exempt and automatically qualified. There were 29 golfers who took part in the qualifier.

FIELD HOCKEY

Catty played Saucon Valley to a 1-1 tie in field hockey action.

Both goals came in the first half and were followed by a scoreless second half as well as a scoreless, 15-minute overtime period.

Olivia Schlofer got Catty on the board first period.

Olivia Schlofer got Catty on the board first with a goal off a pass from Quinn Bachman. But Saucon's Morgan Bordelon would even the game thanks to a helper from Elyssa Okken.

Janae Matos really kept Catty in the game to earn the tie making 19 saves as the Panthers took 20 shots. Marissa Kraemer saved 9 on 10 shots.

Catty JV fell 4-0.

So far, head coach Carrie Saul has been pleased with the offense as the Roughs push toward a District 11 playoff berth, and, hopefully, a Colonial League berth as well.

"We are on pace to surpass last year's total number of goals scored," Saul said last week. "Our offense has been explosive through the past few games. Our defense is working well together to start the counterattack."

Catty is 6-4-1 as of Monday.

"We had a few tough losses but, we have time to qualify for districts," Saul said. "Last year, we had to win our final game in order to qualify, and I want to qualify early enough to raise our seed."

VOLLEYBALL

For first-year head coach Abby Cunningham, it's all about the small victories for her Catty team.

"Most of these girls have only been playing for only seven weeks," Cunningham said. "The skills don't come overnight and they realize that. They are working hard to perfect the fundamentals and I am appreciative of their efforts."

While the wins haven't come yet for the Rough Riders, Cunningham likes how the girls have handled themselves this season.

"I believe it takes a special group of girls to work as hard as they are with the record that we currently have," Cunningham said. "It proves a lot about their character and I'm excited to work with them the rest of the year. With such a young team, the possibilities are endless."

Cunningham is also starting to like what she sees on the court. She mentioned the girls are starting to pass well and their overall court awareness is improving. That will continue to improve with experience.

"The more exposure they get to gamelike situations in practice, and games themselves, the more they will progress," Cunningham said.

The team dropped a recent contest to Salem Christian 25-6, 25-8 and 25-16 and to Southern Lehigh 25-7, 25-7 and 25-5.
