Freedom tennis player, Federica Maranzana, was filled with mixed emotions following her silver medal finish at number three singles at the Lehigh Valley Conference Tennis Tournament on Monday at Parkland High School.
"I just kind of went out pretty relaxed. I wanted to play my best and see where it went. Once I got close, I wanted to see if I could do this. It's a little upsetting that I was that close," Maranzana said.
Maranzana made it to the final, taking on Parkland's TuQuyen Pham and missing out on the gold medal 8-10.
"At the beginning, I was down 0-3. Then it started being close," she said.
Maranzana's previous match was also a challenge, but the Patriot senior defeated Emmaus's Victoria Chan comfortably, 10-5.
"I was a little nervous because I lost to her during the season. It was close in the beginning [of today's match], but I was able to pull through," said Maranzana.
Facing Whitehall's Nicole Tock proved to be less difficult as Maranzana won 8-0 in her first match of the day.
"During the season, I won in three sets, so I thought it would be tougher," Maranzana said.
Accepting the silver medal, Maranzana displayed a combination of pride and regret.
"In my last two matches, my forehand went pretty well. I'm happy I got second, but a little disappointed. Overall, happy," said Maranzana.
