Family Fun Night to be held Oct. 4 at SHS
Oh, how I love this time of year! No more air conditioning, just open windows and all the sounds of nature flowing through my house. What else comes around this time of year? Football season! And there are a lot of fun activities planned at the Falcon football field this month.
Oct. 4 is Family Fun Night at the Salisbury High School football game. Bring out the whole family to cheer on the Falcons as they play Saucon Valley 7 p.m.
As I mentioned before, Oct. 11 is the Homecoming game. With this year being the 50th graduating class of SHS, any member of the graduating class of 1965 and any and all Homecoming Kings and Queens from 1965 through 2012 are invited to attend the game and be recognized. Please RSVP to Jennifer Piagesi at jpiagesi@ stsd.org.
Also at the Homecoming game, the Salisbury Football Booster Club will hold its annual 100 Yards of Hope. The club will be selling pink 100-yard T-shirts, with a portion of the sale going to the American Cancer Society. Sheila Hartzell is taking orders now insmall, medium, large, extra-large or 2XL. Email her at pfalcon82@ aol.com to place your order; supplies will be limited.
The Homecoming dance will be held 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at the high school.
Also on Oct. 12, the Salisbury Football Booster Club is holding their second annual car show 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at SHS. There will be muscle cars, antiques, street rods, 4 x 4's and race cars. Refreshments will be served along with music by DJ Myc and Ricky Smith and the Crush noon to 3 p.m.
Western Salisbury Elementary is having picture day Oct. 8. Everyone smile nice! Let me also remind you to send in the order form and payment if you plan on purchasing any pictures. I say this because I forgot to send it in with my son, Jacob. My oldest is a senior and didn't need an order form, so I completely forgot to send Jacob's in with him. I guess we will be taking advantage of retake day this year.
In middle school news, parent visitation day is 8:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Oct.4. Come out and discover what your kids really do all day.
If you went to Salisbury Middle School Open House, there is a parent survey on the school website for you to post any ideas or comments that you have about the format of open house. Here is your chance to give some input on the way it might be run next year.
SMS is having a fall book fair Oct. 7 through 14. Times will vary by the day, but every grade will have a chance to visit the fair and shop for books. There will be in-school shopping Oct. 7 through 10, and online only Oct. 11 through 14. For complete information, visit the school website.
Something for the students to look forward to is all Salisbury Township schools will be closed Oct. 14 for a teacher Professional Development Day. Enjoy your long weekend, students.
There is a school board meeting 7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the administration building.
The Devonshire Drop-off is open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 5, 15 and 19.
The 275th Anniversary Committee at Jerusalem Western Salisbury Church would like to invite you to their monthly breakfast fundraiser 8 to 11 a.m. Oct. 12. The menu includes eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, potatoes, toast, English muffins, coffee, tea, and juice. A donation is suggested.
At 3 p.m. Oct. 8, the church will hold its Blessing of the Animals service at the Grove (weather permitting) or the chapel. Bring your pets to be blessed.
Completely switching gears here, I will let everyone know the Devil's Folly Haunted Barn is opening for the season Oct. 4. The current schedule says it will be open 7 to 11 p.m. every Friday and Saturday in October, however, shows may be added if there is enough demand. Devil's Folly is right across the street from SMS on Devonshire Road.
