Pritchard leads Zephyrs with 87
In the game of golf, small mistakes here or there can have a lasting impact on one's final score.
That was the case for two of Whitehall's top golfers during Monday's Lehigh Valley Conference Golf Championships at Bethlehem Golf Club.
Loran Pritchard shot an 87 during the tournament, and finished in 5th place for the girls division. Despite a subpar day on the course in her eyes, she's aware that a few miscues had an effect on her final position.
"I was missing greens a lot," Pritchard said. "My par putts were pretty long, [and] I kept leaving myself short with all the wind.
"I started out better. I only messed up really bad on two holes. If I would've done better on both of those holes, I probably would've had a chance at placing."
Freedom's Helen Hsu shot a 77, and earned a first place finish for the girls. Central Catholic's Franca Hurtado, who shot an 80, and Emmaus' Kelsey Patterson, who shot an 83, rounded out the top three girl finishers.
Patrick Glasgow led the Whitehall boys with a round of 88, one under his season average of 89. His driving was solid enough out of the tee box to set up a number of key iron shots. Those iron shots, however, gave Glasgow some trouble throughout the course.
"My driving was pretty solid," Glasgow said. "It's just my irons - I didn't hit one green I don't think. I didn't have any birdie putts. I had to keep getting up and downs to save par."
Glasgow maintained a solid outing for much of the course's entirety. Besides a breakdown in the second to last hole, Glasgow was pleased with his performance.
"For awhile I was, and then we got to the second last hole and I blew it up," Glasgow said. "I got a nine. Without that, I could've had a pretty solid score.
"I started off pretty well. It was a pretty constant round. There were some shots that you would've liked to have back, just like any other round-some doubles that should've been pars and bogeys.
Also for the Zephyrs, Brian Mittura shot a 121, Chase Hutterer finished with a 121, Noah Zahradnik scored a 136 and Shawn Jacon tallied a 140.
Parkland's Chad Hess shot a 2-over par 73 for the day to capture first place. Emmaus's Grant Schumaker, who shot a 74, and Carlos Fullerton, who shot a 75, finished in second and third place respectively.
Tied at 389 in the team championships, Parkland and Emmaus went into a tiebreaker to determine the tournament's winner. With the tiebreaker awarded to the team's lower sixth golfer, Parkland's Parker Lessel was the deciding factor in the Trojans' team title.
