Coplay Halloween parade set for Oct. 15

The Coplay Recreation and Welfare Association's community Halloween parade is currently taking shape.

At the organization's meeting last Thursday, the association announced the parade will be held Tuesday, Oct. 15, which is the third Tuesday of the month, the same as in previous years.

Returning are the five bands which were supported by crowds lining the parade route last year, along with floats, school groups, Scouts and civic and church organizations.

The music organizations participating this year include the Whitehall High School Zephyr Marching Band, East Hills Middle School Band from the Bethlehem Area School District, Wind Gap Drum and Bugle Corps Band, The Allentown Hobo Almost Marching Band and the Rajah Temple Band.

In recognition of Fire Prevention Week and Month, fire companies and rescue squads from the region, led by the Coplay Fire Department, will precede the first division.

RCN will televise the parade from Rob's Auto Center, Seventh and Chestnut streets.

Each of the four divisions will step off from the west end of Chestnut Street.

The parade route begins on Chestnut and Ninth, heads east to Second Street, and proceeds south on Second Street to Hokendauqua Street, where it disbands.

Just less than a block away, at Fifth and Hokendauqua streets, the Coplay Saengerbund will again provide hot dogs, soda, chips and pretzels for those in the parade.

Those participating in the parade receive a stipend.

The association continues to seek sponsors for its four divisions. Those interested can contact the borough office at 610-262-6088.
