Rival Zephs bring 4-0 record into showdown

The Parkland football team won a very important game last Friday at Liberty that will help in the standings, but the Trojans do not have long to relish in victory as they welcome a familiar rival in undefeated Whitehall (4-0 overall, 3-0 LVC).

"That was an important win for us because we didn't have our full identity yet as a football team," Morgans said. "This is another big one to really show who we are."

The matchup should be similar in terms of offensive schemes. The Zephyrs beat Nazareth 27-7 last weekend thanks in large part to their running game. Ryan Bonshak and Saquon Barkley combined to rush for 241 yards and four touchdowns. The duo will be on head coach Jim Morgans and his defense's minds.

"Their offense is kind of like ours," said Morgans. "They have two good running backs just like we have [Eli] Redmond and [Kareem] Williams. They'll give our defense some problems. They also have a good scheme in their passing attack. I think it's safe to say that they want to establish the run first."

The Trojan offense is also looking to establish the run. Against the Hurricanes, Williams and quarterback Devante Cross both rushed for 102 yards and combined for three touchdowns.

Redmond netted 59 rushing yards, and showed his explosiveness in returning a punt for 87 yards.

"I can't even fathom going into a game without giving the ball to our running backs," said Morgans. "With the skill kids that we have, we have to take advantage of their abilities. Having said that, playing against quality opponents, you have to have a passing game also."

In their meeting last season, Parkland won 52-23 and racked up 492 yards of total offense, while the defense shut down Whitehall in the second half.

Morgans knows the Zephyrs will be looking for revenge, but feels that his Trojans know how big this rivalry game is and will be up for the challenge.

"When you're playing Whitehall, if you can't get motivated then you shouldn't be playing football," said Morgans.

It is another important game in the scheme of the Lehigh Valley Conference standings, and one that Parkland hopes it can come away with again.
